Windmill Accommodation for Up to Two PeopleIf you are looking for windmill accommodation in France, this typically French Windmill has been lovingly restored in 2004 to something of its former glory. The meter thick 300 year old walls are warmed once more yet the spirit of days gone by lingers on… This charming bedroom is everything that you could dream of for a romantic holiday, with views of the sunset at dusk and the moon and stars at night. Sleep with the window open in the balmy summer nights and listen to the nightingales and crickets. The roomy shower and toilet area on the second floor with warmed fluffy towels is just what you need after a day sight-seeing. Huge original flagstones have been carefully relaid on the ground floor to lend an authentic feel to the kitchen/salon. It is light and airy and tastefully fitted out with all modern conveniences. You and your partner can rent this unusual accommodation for yourselves and spend your honeymoon (or second one!) somewhere totally different. Situated in South West FranceThe Windmill is set in 2.5 acres in a peaceful corner of the National Park in the Lot Valley near Cahors and offers extensive views all around, particularly to the south west where, on a clear day, the panoramic top floor windows lends a vista to the French Pyrenees. Behind the Windmill lies the small private garden where your meals can be enjoyed beside the ancient shepherd’s hut (gariotte) in the old sunken patio, all included in your holiday rental. Albi, Cahors, Figeac, Montauban, Rocamador, Toulouse all within ReachFrom the windmill a variety of attractive sites and villages can be easily reached, from St Cirq Lapopie, the first nationally preserved medieval village in France to Albi with its breathtaking Cathedral, Toulouse-Lautrec Museum and old cobbled streets. Rocamadour, the Gouffre de Padirac and nearby Sarlat offer a unique day exploring. The Pont de Valentre in Cahors, the only fortified bridge remaining in Europe is worth seeing especially from the viewpoint at St.Cerice. Wine, Walking and MarketsThe Cahors market is open Wednesday and Saturday mornings and we can recommend excellent Cahors wine from a small local family vineyard ten minutes away. In short, you can be as busy or as quiet as you wish. A myriad of lanes and pathways crisscross the area which is on the walker’s map. An Economical Holiday Let, Rich in WildlifeThe peaceful nature of the place allows many species of wild birds and butterflies to gather here including the Hoopoe bird who is a regular Springtime visitor and nests in the wall of the nearby Miller’s Cottage every year. The wild orchids and heleborines are at their best in May and June and cover the area in a purple and pink carpet and the perfume from the honeysuckle and wild roses in the lane is quite overpowering. Sometimes we are visited in the evening by the old wild boar and there are deer and red squirrels in the nearby woods. |
