Welcome to Le Moulin de Payrot
The Cottage

Introduction

The Miller's Cottage and Windmill stand on a piece of land 2.5 acres in size, with ancient dry stone walls. The cottage is totally independant and private, with its own entrance. The 300 year old Windmill has been lovingly restored by its owners, Lynn and Michel Bougault to something of its former glory. Lynn is English and Michel is French, therefore both languages are spoken fluently. They welcome you to the South West of France to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the relaxation of Le Moulin de Payrot.

Situation

Le Moulin de Payrot is situated 500m from the village of Aujols in the unspoilt Lot region of South West France. The village is 10 minutes from the historic cathedral town of Cahors with the famous Pont Valentre. There are excellent markets in nearby towns and villages especially on Mondays in Caussade.

This wonderful property nestles on a hilltop up a quiet lane. The cottage stands in 2.5 acres alongside the old windmill. There are beautiful views all around and it is a very tranquil spot with Red Squirrels, Deer and Wild Boar in the nearby woods and many species of birds including Nightingales. The Wild Orchids and Heleborines are at their best from mid-May to mid-June attracting many Butterflies no longer seen in Britain and as this is an unpolluted area of natural beauty it is perfect for walking and cycling.

The Windmill Surrounding Area

Aujols is noted for its famous lavoir, which is surrounded by the butterfly like washing stones. The nearest town of Lalbenque has an open air swimming pool for use in July and August and is famous for its truffle market from December to mid-March.

Aujols is close to St Cirq Lapopie, a very attractive hilltop village and the first nationally preserved site in France. The second site, Rocamadour is within easy reach and well worth seeing, as are the caves at Pech-Merle with their famous prehistoric paintings. The medieval towns of Sarlat and Puy L'Eveque are big attractions.

Nearby, Montpezat is famous for its tapestries and Moissac hosts a fine Benedictine Abbey. Markets and Fetes add to the local colour throughout the year and six miles away on the River Lot there is river bathing, canoeing and fishing. In short, you can be as busy or quiet as you wish.

Tourist guides, leaflets and maps are provided in the cottage. For more information on the Lot visit http://www.tourisme-lot.com (soon to be available in English) or email: promotion@tourisme-lot.com
